Kenneth Walker and Breece Hall updates ahead of Broncos free agency

It's official: One of Broncos Country's top running back options going into free agency is now off the market. On Tuesday morning, the New York Jets placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on running back Breece Hall worth $14.29 million, which is seen as a placeholder to get a long-term deal done. If the Jets can't get a new deal done by July 15, Hall will play under the tag in 2026.

The non-exclusive franchise tag means teams can negotiate with Hall and his agents, but if they decide to sign Hall, that team would give up two first-round picks. It's highly unlikely Denver (or any other team) would want to pay that steep of a price for a running back.

Elsewhere on the running back front, the Hall news is great for the biggest name in this year's running back cycle, Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker. The Seattle Seahawks did not place any tag on Walker, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent next week.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport predicted the market for running backs to be in the $8 million-plus a year range, which was set by former Broncos running back Javonte Williams when he re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Rapoport also mentioned Denver among the teams that will want to address running back before the NFL draft.

Denver now appears set to jump headfirst into the hottest running back market in years. Could they target the Super Bowl MVP when the NFL's free agency negotiating window opens on March 9? Check back next week.
