Arizona School's Athletics Placed on Probation After Basketball Incident

The Arizona Interscholastic Association has placed Coolidge High School's entire athletics department on 365-day probation due to taunting allegations during a boys basketball playoff game.

The penalties include a playoff ban for all teams at the school, which Coolidge is currently appealing. The Bears defeated Chinle 64-53 in a quarterfinal matchup, but video footage allegedly showing taunting led to the AIA investigation. Arizona state legislator Myron Tsosie commented on the incident, noting messages from concerned Chinle families and fans.

If sanctions are upheld, Coolidge would forfeit this Friday's state semifinal game against Snowflake and be ineligible for postseason play in all sports for one year.
