Girls basketball: Community Christian School Eagles crowned MCAC champions

Mar. 4—CAMBRIDGE — It was a storybook finish to the Minnesota Christian Athletic Conference season for the

girls basketball team.

For the first time since the league formed ahead of the 2024-25 season, CCS claimed the MCAC state girls basketball championship at Cambridge Christian School on Saturday.

"These young women have demonstrated perseverance, unity and Christ-centered character throughout the season," Eagles principal Lisa Strom said. "They have inspired our entire school community and we are incredibly proud of the way they competed with excellence and integrity. This team has set a legacy that will impact CCS for years to come."

CCS, which finished undefeated in the MCAC and 23-3 overall, earned a 64-56 win against the First Baptist Crusaders of Rosemount in the championship game.

Previously in tournament play, the Eagles played to a 61-45 victory over Immanuel Lutheran in the semifinals on Friday and a 59-25 win against St. Cloud Christian in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

CCS head coach Kaela Heer graduates four seniors: Margo Klaassen, Lexi Nelson, Hope Reid and Grace Strom.

Klaassen, who was named the tournament's MVP, was also an All-MCAC selection alongside Nelson, who received all-tournament honors, and Reid.

Other upperclassmen on the roster featured juniors Addison Kveene and Brooklyn Alle.

Kourtney DeBerg, Vienna Norling and Emily Zelaya represented the sophomore class, while eighth-graders Claire Fries, Harper Gjerde, Ella Kannas, Sophie Kannas and Amelia Kveene were also on the championship roster.
