Canucks’ Pierre-Olivier Joseph out at least two weeks, coach says

Pierre-Olivier Joseph will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

The Vancouver Canucks veteran defenceman is expected to miss two to three weeks due to an upper-body injury, head coach Adam Foote told reporters on Wednesday.

Joseph appeared to suffer the injury in the Canucks 6-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, leaving the game early in the third period. His last shift came three minutes into the final frame, as Joseph’s night came to an end after 10:36 of total ice time.

The 26-year-old has one goal and four assists in 23 games this season, his first with the Canucks after signing as a free agent in July.

Joseph has 45 points (nine goals, 36 assists) through 218 games over six NHL seasons. Before landing in Vancouver, he spent time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues.

The Laval, Que., native was drafted 23rd overall by Arizona in 2017.

As for the Canucks, they return to action on Wednesday in a matchup against the Metropolitan Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes (Sportsnet Pacific, Sportsnet+, 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT).
