BOSTON — Baylor Scheierman will play through a left thumb fracture he suffered in Friday’s Celtics win against the Brooklyn Nets.
Scheierman suffered the injury in a collision with Nets guard Egor Demin.
“I just ran into him,” Scheierman said. “He was running the other way. I thought he was going to just chase after the ball because it was up in the air, and I think my thumb just kind of went into his chest, and just hurt. And looked down and just kind of felt weird and kind of just locked. I was able to kind of unlock it and get it loose again, and then taped it up and just finished the game.”
Scheierman appeared on the injury report on Saturday and was initially listed as questionable. He participated in the Celtics’ shootaround on Sunday morning and was upgraded to available a few hours before tip-off.
Scheierman smiled when asked exactly what kind of fracture he suffered.
“I’m not a doctor — it was some big name thing — but all I know is it’s fractured, so that’s all I got.”
Scheierman said he broke that same left thumb in high school, but that time, he immediately had surgery and was ruled out.
This time, he’s going to try to play through the injury.
“I got some shots in this morning, this afternoon, and I feel ready to go,” Scheierman said. “We’re just kind of evaluating it as it goes, but I feel good enough to be out there, and that’s how it’s going to be. I’m not going to sit out.”
