Northeast Regional
Taking place at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, wrestlers from Districts 2,4,11, and 12 will compete for a trip to Hershey. Only one local wrestler qualified for the Northeast Regional in Pottsville’s Terrell McFarland, who is the District 11’s third qualifier at 189 pounds. McFarland, boasting a 40-1 record this fall, will face District 12 second-place finisher Thomas Quin in the opening round.
McFarland did not place in last year’s regionals at 189 pounds, but previously finished second and fifth. He is looking to make his second trip to the state tournament after doing so as a freshman during the 2022-23 season. Last weekend, the Pottsville senior fell to Brayden Zuecher of Nazareth in the District 11 semifinals 7-2 before earning wins over Connor Gillahan of Bethlehem Catholic and Justin Cosover of Easton.
The two District 11 stars could potentially have a rematch this weekend if both were to advance to the semifinals.
The top seed at 189 pounds is Notre Dame-Green Pond senior Dominic Sumpolec, a George Mason commitment. Sumpolec finished fifth in the state last at 189 pounds.
