Oneonta’s Geoff Davis had been inducted in the Eastern New York Soccer Hall of Fame, according to a media release from the organization.
A Bronx native, Davis enrolled at then Oneonta State in 1965. He stayed in the area after graduation, taking a job teaching physical education at the college. He taught at the college for four decades.
In 1989, he began working as a soccer referee, and he still is involved in officiating the sport. He is president of the Oneonta Soccer Referees Association and secretary/treasurer of the Delaware-Otsego High School Officials group.
In the 1990s, Davis became an officer in the Oneonta Soccer Club, serving as president, vice president and treasurer at various times. He was also registrar of the Mid-State New York Soccer League for 25 years.
Davis continues to work with youth soccer, including training and supervising new officials.
According to the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Organization, Davis was inducted during a ceremony Saturday, January 24 at Marina del Rey in the Bronx.
