Rams Top Spartans in Mountain West Battle

Colorado State defeated San Jose State 85-73 Saturday, using their efficient offense to overcome the Spartans' spirited play.

San Jose State showed fight throughout the game, particularly in the first half when they matched the Rams shot-for-shot. Freshman guard Melvin Bell Jr. sparked the Spartans with 12 first-half points, while Colby Garland finished with a game-high 28 points and eight assists. However, Colorado State's offensive precision ultimately wore down the Spartans, as the Rams shot an impressive 62% from the field and 53% from three.

Colorado State guard Brandon Rechsteiner was the early catalyst, pouring in 15 first-half points and drilling five of six three-point attempts. The Spartans dropped to 8-21, 3-15 MW with the loss, while Colorado State improved to 17-11, 9-8 MW, continuing their strong February play.
