MLBPA Chief Clark Resigns Over Scandal

MLBPA executive director Tony Clark resigned following an internal investigation revealing an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, a union employee.

The union's leadership turmoil comes as collective bargaining negotiations approach a Dec. 1 deadline. During a conference call Tuesday, executive council members supported Bruce Meyer as interim replacement, but at least three players objected, preventing a vote. Players will reconvene Wednesday to discuss next steps.

The federal investigation into Clark continues despite his financial clearance by the union. His sister-in-law, who worked at the union's Scottsdale office since 2023, earned $83,101 last year and $96,524 in 2024. The union postponed spring-training meetings with the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox amid the leadership crisis.
