Holtz took over the struggling Notre Dame program in 1986 and immediately transformed it into a national powerhouse. His 1988 team went 12-0 and claimed the national title, marking the first championship for the Fighting Irish since 1973. Beyond Notre Dame, Holtz also had successful stints at Arkansas, Minnesota, and South Carolina, compiling a career record of 249-132-7 and being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
