Football enforces one-minute rule for injured players

Football's international law committee (IFAB) will implement a new rule requiring injured players to wait one minute on the sidelines before returning to the game to combat time-wasting.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is set to approve a new regulation mandating that players who receive treatment on the pitch must wait a full minute on the sidelines before rejoining play. This measure aims to address the persistent issue of time-wasting in football.

Currently, no specific rules dictate how long treated players must remain off the field, with leagues setting their own guidelines. The Premier League has operated with a 30-second rule since the 2023/24 season. The new global standard will be formally adopted during IFAB's annual general assembly this Saturday.
