Canter Wins Olympic Bronze After Near-Death Experience

U.S. snowboarder Jake Canter won Olympic bronze in slopestyle, nine years after doctors told him he would never snowboard again following a traumatic brain injury.

U.S. snowboarder Jake Canter defied medical predictions to claim Olympic bronze in slopestyle. Nine years after suffering a traumatic brain injury that fractured his skull in four places, Canter landed a 1980-degree spin on his final run to secure the medal.

The 22-year-old rider endured multiple comas, skull reconstruction, and had to relearn basic functions after his accident at age 13. Canter dedicated his medal to his younger self who lay in a hospital bed, saying, "This is for him, and everyone who supported me."
