Thompson Expected to Play for Canada Against U.S.

Canadian women's hockey defender Claire Thompson is expected to play in Thursday's gold-medal game against the U.S. despite missing practice with an upper-body injury.

Head coach Troy Ryan confirmed that Thompson has an upper-body injury but all signs point to her being available for the game. 'She has an upper-body injury that we just thought it would be better for her to take the day off and play around with a little bit of medical treatment that she'll potentially have to use in the game, but all signs point to that she'll be fine for the game,' Ryan said. Thompson has been a key player for Canada, tied for fourth among defenders with four points (one goal, three assists) in six games.

Canada will be aiming to defend its gold medal in the final against the U.S., which is riding a seven-game win streak against its rival. The game takes place Thursday at 1:10 p.m. ET / 10:10 a.m. PT on CBC Gem and Sportsnet+.
