Canada's McMorris, Spalding Miss Olympic Slopestyle Podium

Canada's Mark McMorris fell short of his fourth consecutive Olympic podium, finishing eighth in men's slopestyle snowboarding at Milano Cortina 2026. Fellow Canadian Cameron Spalding placed tenth in the competition.

McMorris, 32, from Regina, fell in two of his three attempts during the final. The 25-time Winter X Games medallist had suffered a concussion, bone bruising near his pelvis and an abdominal strain in a training crash on Feb. 4, forcing him to withdraw from the big-air competition. Despite the injuries, he was cleared to compete in slopestyle and finished third in qualifying.

Spalding, 20, from Havelock, Ont., was the 2024-25 World Cup champion in the event. Su Yiming of China claimed gold on his 22nd birthday, while Japan's Taiga Hasegawa earned silver and American Jake Canter took bronze. New Zealand's Dane Menzies, born in Alberta, finished seventh after being the top qualifier.
