Bayern's Hoeness wants to cut power of player agents
Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness has said the club will act tougher in the future against player agents as a consequence of the difficult Dayot Upamecano renewal talks.
Hoeness told Tuesday's edition of the Bild paper that Bayern bosses will "no longer accept that agents alone determine how things are done. Their contribution is increasingly out of proportion to the fees that are charged and often paid in the end.
"We will say 'no' more often and refuse to go along with this madness," Hoeness insisted.
Centre back Upamecano renewed his contract until 2030 last week after long talks.
Hoeness had said he was shocked about the behaviour of the player's agents and now told Bild that "the advisors either wanted to drive up the price for us or drive him to another club, and as a thank you, we were supposed to pay them a signing bonus.
"That is a contradiction in terms that we should no longer accept," said.
Hoeness said that the players must be held more accountable in the future and said the club will reject excessive demands from agents.
"You can also tell the player: 'If your agent continues to negotiate in such an insolent manner, we will no longer discuss your future with us.' That's how far it has to go," Hoeness said.
"We may also put one or two agents – if they behave unfairly – on a list and tell them that we will no longer sign players they represent. That would be the next step."
