The New England Patriots could be in the market for pass catchers, and Cade Otton of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be an interesting target.

Austin Hooper is a free agent and Hunter Henry is a season away from being a free agent. Adding a young tight end this offseason would be wise for the Patriots. If they can find the right player, he could replace Henry next season as well. MassLive's Mark Daniels suggested Otton as a target this offseason.

"If the Patriots want to add a tight end in his prime, who also happens to be a solid pass catcher and blocker, Otton might be the best fit," wrote Daniels on Tuesday. "The 26-year-old caught 59 passes for 572 yards and a touchdown last season in Tampa. At 6-foot-5, 247 pounds, Otton is a willing and capable blocker. He’d fit in nicely with Josh McDaniels’ system. Otton’s best season came in 2024 when he caught 59 passes for 600 yards and four touchdowns."

Otton has 2,018 career receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. The former fourth-round pick has become a great target for Baker Mayfield, but could put up even better numbers with Drake Maye in New England. He and Henry could be an elite tandem next season, but after that, Otton could take over as the lead tight end.

In fact, Otton has the potential to emerge as the top tight end on the team, even with Henry playing. He had 309 yards after the catch last season. That would have ranked third on the Patriots' last season.

The Patriots have other needs they may prioritize in free agency first. However, Otton could be a great fit that does not cost them too much.
