Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Let’s start the night off by taking a look back over the three biggest stories of Monday, March 2, 2026.
- Plot twist! UFC benches No. 2-ranked title contender, plans ‘much bigger’ fight for returning Islam Makhachev: If this is just Ali Abdelaziz trying to once again sell the Kamaru Usman title shot, I’ll lose it.
- UFC Mexico City results: Biggest winners, loser from ‘Moreno vs. Kavanagh’ last night: Outside of Lone’er Kavanagh, the biggest UFC Mexico City winners are the fight fans who opted to go bowling instead of tuning in.
- UFC Mexico City results: Matches to make for ‘Moreno vs. Kavanagh’ main card winners: Who would you book Kavanagh against next? He’s kind of in a strange spot having suffered his first defeat and scored his biggest win both in the last six months.
Insomnia
Based on Floyd Mayweather’s schedule this year and unexpected return to professional competition, the rumors of “Money” going broke are highly believable.
Tanner Boser is back! After being released in 2023, Boser won a single UAE Warriors bout in June 2025 and already returns here, because the UFC Heavyweight division needs all the help it can get.
Marlon Vera’s inactivity is legendary at this point, but David Martinez deserves his share of the credit for not letting “Chito” build offense easily.
“Blessed” indeed.
Aljamain Sterling passionately argues that he deserves a title shot, but I’m not sure anybody else agrees? Half-dead Brian Ortega in 2025 does not exactly make a compelling argument.
Don’t mind me crying in the club.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in 2026 so far is that “Lokdog” is an insane person. You fought at 61 kg like a month ago, but now it’s a “child’s body?!?”
Slips, rips, and KO clips
I wonder what percentage of modern fight fans have ever seen a full Chuck Liddell fight.
Two hard shots from the left side then tricked him with the jumping switch knee — slick!
It’s rare to see what’s essentially a one punch KO on the canvas like this, that second shot just instantly put him out.
Random Land
Anyone else watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? I really enjoyed the first season!
