The New York Jets and pass rusher Jermaine Johnson have gone their separate ways as the former first-round pick was traded to the Tennessee Titans.
The deal was announced late last week during the 2026 NFL combine. The trade was a symbolic one.
Johnson was one of three first-round picks for New York in 2022. The other two were cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who both were moved at last season's trade deadline. It's a full turning of the page for the Jets.
Johnson was always a team player in New York until the end. He backed head coach Aaron Glenn at the end of last season despite the Jets' 3-14 record.
While looking forward to his fresh start, Johnson still took time to show some love to the Jets, his teammates, and fans in New York. Johnson called it a "special place in his heart."
Johnson's full farewell note after being traded can be found below:
New York, thank you for everything truly. The love I’ve been shown here for the past 4-5 years has been nothing short of amazing, both on and off the field. Y’all will always hold a special place in my heart. Wish all of my former coaches and former teammates the best!! Thank all…
