John Terry has said that while he doesn’t agree with everything Thomas Tuchel did, he still respects the German coach’s results and no-nonsense approach.

Tuchel took over at Chelsea in January 2021 and quickly turned things around, leading them to a Champions League title in just five months. He later added the UEFA Super Cup and the club’s first FIFA Club World Cup to his list of achievements.

Known for his tactical discipline and wing-back system, Tuchel reached six finals during his time at the club. But after helping Chelsea navigate through an ownership change in 2022, he was let go that September following clashes with the new management, although many fans still regard him as a club hero.

Terry has spoken about Tuchel as well, sharing his thoughts as the former manager aims to bring some of that success to England.

Speaking on the Double Tops podcast, John Terry shared why he believes Thomas Tuchel can make a difference for England, drawing from what he saw during the manager’s time at Chelsea.

“I think we have a chance. I’m not sure whether is going to be on our side. That sounds really bizarre to say, but I just think South American team. I think with Harry Kane as our main man, it’s probably our last chance with him. I hope we do. I really hope.

“I think the big thing, the manager is the big thing. Yeah, he’s ruthless. I’ve seen him at Chelsea.”

When asked if that made him a big fan of Tuchel, Terry clarified his stance:

“Not a big, big fan of his, but he knows how to win,” he said.

Which Chelsea players could be selected for England?

Cole Palmer is still the likeliest inclusion, despite his recent fitness issues and a slight drop in Premier League form. His performances during Euro 2024 and his ability to open up defences remain valuable assets.

Reece James is also expected to be named, offering leadership and technical skill on the right flank. As long as his minutes continue to be managed well, he should be ready for the demands of a summer tournament in North America.

Levi Colwill probably won’t feature, as this season may come too early for his return. Trevoh Chalobah has worked his way into the conversation as a flexible backup option, but it’s still uncertain if Tuchel will include him.
