The Dallas Cowboys have become synonymous with offseason contract drama in recent years.
Dak Prescott (multiple times over), CeeDee Lamb, Zack Martin to a degree, Micah Parsons in his own unique way… there is always something and someone.
This offseason the Cowboys have George Pickens on their hands and it is important to note that the situation is different from any that recently preceded it. All of those players were looking for extensions with the team which is why their situations rippled into training camp. Pickens is currently set to become a free agent which means that Dallas will have to use the franchise tag to at the very least buy more time towards a long-term deal.
Today, February 17th, is the day in which the window to officially place the tag on players opens. It stands to reason that the Cowboys will do it and will sell it as a placeholder. There is nothing wrong with this at this point to be clear.
What do you want the next step to be, though? Do you want the Cowboys to try to see the tag through the 2026 season? Or do you want a long-term deal? Do you think the tag in general is too much?
