The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is planning to establish a High-Altitude Training Centre (HATC) in Shillong, Meghalaya, at an estimated cost of ₹150 crore.
The proposed facility will have the capacity to house and train more than 450 athletes simultaneously. As per the plan, the centre will include a dedicated Sports Science Building and an elite athletes’ residential complex.
The project also envisages the construction of an indoor heated swimming pool and the development of natural training trails. In addition, the existing football field, campus infrastructure and the eight-lane, 400-metre athletics track will be upgraded as part of the project.
The centre is being planned as a dedicated high-altitude training facility and is expected to cater to athletes across multiple disciplines.
