India’s upcoming tour to Ireland — Emerging pace bowlers to watch out for

In an imaginary sense, the current cricketing landscape is akin to a non-stop bullet train that chugs around the globe. In other words, it narrates a story about the hectic schedule. In such a scenario, it is understandable that the Indian selectors would look for experimentation and usher in new faces.

After completing the two-month-long IPL journey, some of the Indian cricketers would take part in a one-off Test versus Afghanistan and a short tour of Ireland. In that context, here’s a list of emerging fast bowlers who might secure berths in India’s squad for the limited-overs series against Ireland.

Prince Yadav: The Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi fast bowler is one of them tipped to make it to the India squad for the Ireland tour. In the ongoing IPL, Prince has picked up 13 scalps at an impressive average of 20.46. More importantly, his economy rate also stands at a noteworthy 8.06.

Just peel the outside coating and you will observe a salient feature of his methods in the ongoing IPL — the ability to take wickets with the new ball. So far, Prince has six wickets against his name at an average of 15.5 in the powerplay overs. In the last year’s IPL, he had bowled a mere 24 deliveries in that phase of the innings.

Prince has consistently bowled fuller with the new ball in order to find swing. The numbers back it up too, as 17 per cent of his deliveries have been on a fuller length this season. He also seems to have worked on having a caressing grip.

Prince is also renowned for nailing the yorkers. Here, we have to also consider his mindset or rather how he looks to keep it simple. In an exclusive chat with this correspondent, Prince had once shared his thoughts on bowling in the harsh world of IPL where tall scores have become the norm. “I don’t think what the batsman is thinking, I believe if I get the yorker right, then the batsman won’t be able to hit it.”

In addition to the above-mentioned skills, Prince is also deceptively quick and has added the slower short one to his quiver. In a nutshell, the gritty fast bowler looks all set to don the India colours in limited-overs cricket soon.

Mohsin Khan vs KKR ( PC- X)

Mohsin Khan: Prince’s LSG teammate, Mohsin, also has the raw attributes to play for India in the abridged versions of the game. The well-built and tall left-arm pacer extracts awkward bounce from a high release point. Even the marauding Rajasthan Royals opener, Vaibhav Sooryanashi, ended up playing out a maiden over while facing Mohsin. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Mohsin has 10 wickets at a redoubtable average of 14.9 in IPL 2026.

Alongside bowling at a decent burst of pace, Mohsin also employs the slower short one to good effect. At the 2023 IPL, from a high release point, the left-arm bowler even landed some fine yorkers to chart a famous last-over win for LSG over Mumbai Indians. The only caveat that goes against Mohsin is his health issues/injuries.

Anshul Kamboj: Kamboj is currently the joint highest wicket-taker in the ongoing IPL with 17 scalps. So, what could be the nuts and bolts of his skill set? One of them has to be his traits to nail the toe-crusher from round the wicket while bowling to right-handers. Incidentally, 10 of his wickets this season have come in the slog overs.

When Kamboj is operating at about 135-138 kph, he also seems to hit the bat hard enough. Eric Simons, the CSK bowling coach, confirmed the point to this correspondent. “I do agree he does hit the bat harder, but I think it has to do with the bounce, the fact that the ball hits higher up on the bat, he hits the seam, he hits the particular spot of the bat that is a bit higher.”

In the final analysis, Kamboj could be an outside bet to make it into India’s set-up for the Ireland series.
