McCoy, McKinney among six Lafayette Jeff wrestlers to reach state

RJ McCoy and Robert McKinney became the first Lafayette Jeff wrestlers to reach the IHSAA state championship since 2021, placing third at 150 and second at 215.

RJ McCoy and Robert McKinney made history for Lafayette Jeff by becoming the first wrestlers from the school to reach the IHSAA state championship since 2021. McCoy finished third in the 150‑lb division, while McKinney took second in the 215‑lb class. The duo celebrated their achievement with a homecoming feast at Portillo’s after a grueling semi‑state run that tested their weight‑cut endurance.

Alongside them, six wrestlers from the Lafayette area will compete at state: Southmont’s Gavin Mason (132‑lb runner‑up), Lukas Scott (106‑lb third), Rossville’s Jacob Cole (157‑lb champion) and Jacob Weaver (175‑lb champion). Their collective success highlights the strength of the region’s wrestling program.
