Italy Debuts Red Garibaldi Jersey vs France

Italy will wear special red jerseys against France in their Six Nations clash, honoring Giuseppe Garibaldi and the unification of Italy.

The Azzurri, traditionally known for their blue kits, will debut a special scarlet shirt at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille. The new 'Garibaldi Red' jersey commemorates the Italian general who was instrumental in the country's unification in the 19th century, with his loyal volunteers known as 'redshirts' due to their distinctive jackets.

This tribute connects to the Giuseppe Garibaldi Trophy, which Italy and France contest annually. The kits were unveiled at Quarto dei Mille near Genoa, where Garibaldi launched the 'Expedition of the Thousand' in 1860. The Italian rugby federation (FIR) stated that the red color symbolizes values such as heroism and indomitable spirit embodied by Italian athletes. Italy's women's team will also wear the special jersey in their Six Nations match against France.
