Blue Jays' Santander: Shoulder pain led to surgery

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Anthony Santander revealed his shoulder pain returned in January, leading to surgery for a torn labrum that will keep him out 5-6 months.

Anthony Santander has revealed more about his nightmare start to the season. The Toronto Blue Jays slugger, who will miss five to six months due to surgery for a torn labrum, said Wednesday his shoulder pain returned in January when he resumed hitting.

After taking time off to rest, the pain remained when he returned to hitting. An MRI then revealed the torn labrum, which was made public on Day 1 of spring training. The 31-year-old Santander missed most of last season with the same left shoulder injury, appearing in just 54 regular-season games and five more in the post-season.
