Padres' Salas at Career Crossroads

San Diego Padres catching prospect Ethan Salas faces a career crossroads as his stock has plummeted from No. 8 to No. 90 in Baseball America's prospect rankings.

Despite strong defensive skills, Salas' offensive production has disappointed with a .221 career average and 22.5% strikeout rate. The 19-year-old missed significant time last season with a back injury after hitting .188 in 10 games at Double-A San Antonio.

While his defense remains a bright spot with scouts grading him highly, Salas will likely begin the 2026 season in the minors as the Padres don't have an Opening Day roster spot for him.
