Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 15 (ANI): Day 4 of the Akcel World Padel League Season 4, powered by SpiceJet, saw VB Realty Cheetahs take on Hubtown Panorama Panthers in the Qualifier, with a place in the semi-finals at stake. amunra-online.pl

After coming through a closely fought Eliminator against Khan Tigers earlier in the day, the Cheetahs carried their momentum into the Qualifier. They started well and stayed in control through the three sets. The Cheetahs went on to secure a convincing 19-8 victory over the Panthers and move into the semi-finals, according to a press release.

The opening set saw Jesus Moya and Jon Sanz of the Cheetahs face Andres Lancha and Lucas Campagnolo of the Tigers, with the Cheetahs taking the set 6-3 after a closely fought start. Moya and Sanz managed to make the most of their chances as the set progressed to give the Cheetahs the early advantage.

The Tigers responded in the second set, as Javi Garcia and Inigo Jofre took on Coki Nieto and Lucho Capra. The Tigers put together a strong performance to win the set 6-2 and level the contest.

With the match finely poised, Aranzazu Osoro and Carla Mesa faced Raquel Eugenio and Alejandra Alonso in the decider. Both pairs stayed close through the set, but the Cheetahs finished strongly to take the final set 6-3, moving to face Hubtown Panorama Panthers in the Qualifier.

Coming into the Qualifier after their win over Khan Tigers earlier in the day, Aranzazu Osoro and Carla Mesa of the Cheetahs faced Marta Caparros and Marta Barrera of the Panthers, with the Cheetahs taking the set 6-2.

The second set saw Juan Tello and Eduardo Alonso of the Panthers take on Jesus Moya and Jon Sanz of the Cheetahs, with both pairs involved in long rallies and close exchanges before Moya and Sanz edged the set 7-5 to extend the Cheetahs’ lead. With the Panthers looking to fight back in the final set, Enri Goenaga and Rama Valenzuela faced Coki Nieto and Lucho Capra.

The Cheetahs pair took control early and went on to win the set 6-1 to seal the victory.

The stage is set for an interesting finale to the Akcel World Padel League Season 4, on August 16. The first semi-final will see Game Changers Lions face Vedanta Leopards at 3:00 PM, followed by the top finishers of the league stage, Aussie Mavericks Jaguars, taking on VB Realty Cheetahs at 5:30 PM.

The Final match of this season will be played at 8:15 PM, with the Season 4 champions set to be crowned. (ANI)

Spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the key wicket of Steve Smith to reduce Australia to 161-4 after the third day of the first Test in Darwin on Saturday and move Bangladesh closer to a historic upset.

At stumps, Australia trailed by 67 runs in their second innings, with Cameron Green on 43 and Alex Carey on 19. After being dismissed for 426 shortly after lunch, Bangladesh seamer Hasan Mahmud stunned Australia when he claimed both openers cheaply.

Hasan, who took a career-best 6-55 in the first innings, bowled Jake Weatherald (0) and Travis Head (17) in identical fashion, both chopping on to their stumps.

On a good batting strip, Marnus Labuschagne and Smith initially steadied the ship. Labuschagne, who has been out of form and seen his place in the team increasingly come into question, eased to 31 before playing over the top of a straight ball from left-arm spinner Taijul Islam and being bowled. Smith, so often Australia’s saviour, batted sensibly but with the score on 122 he got a leading edge to off-spinner Mehidy and chipped it straight back to the bowler, gone for 44.

“The way we showed character and the way we played for the last two or three days was outstanding,” visiting captain Najmul Hossain Shanto told Fox Sports.

On the eve of the Galle Test, Shubman Gill underlined the importance of preparation time ahead of a big series, especially in red-ball cricket. Devdutt Padikkal’s century on his Test comeback has provided a strong example of that preparation bearing fruit.

Padikkal looked a different player from the one who first turned up for the team’s practice session at the NCC in Colombo. He looked out of sorts in the first couple of days of practice, but the same player then scored a hundred in the practice match and another on his return to Test cricket.

All the hard work he put in behind the scenes during the practice sessions — long hours of batting in the nets — has paid off. Due to the work he put in, the southpaw was able to counter Sri Lanka’s spin threat.

Batting on 131, Padikkal will be eyeing a daddy hundred to help India post a mammoth first-innings total. India have lost Shubman Gill, but the good news is that KL Rahul will come out to bat on the second day, as confirmed by Sitanshu Kotak in the press conference on Day 1.

Rahul walked off after feeling discomfort in his body at the start of the third session. He’ll resume on 77 and, like Padikkal, the India opener could make a big one.

The Galle pitch has already started showing signs of spin, which is why it becomes even more important for India to score big. With a well-set Padikkal and Rishabh Pant at the crease, the run rate will be on the higher side. There is still a lot of batting left, with Rahul set to return, followed by Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel and Manav Suthar. In all likelihood, India will look to bat only once in this Test match.

For that to happen, the visitors will have to score over 550 or 600. India’s bowling attack has the ability to take 20 wickets.

They might declare later on the second day and ask Sri Lanka to come out to bat in the fading light, at the fag end of the day, much like they have done in the past on numerous occasions.
