Rivals insider predicts Texas A&M to land top 2027 4-star LB — and more

Rivals insider predicts Texas A&M to land top 2027 4-star LB

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his revamped coaching staff have been on a short break during the recruiting dead period, but have made significant progress with several priority prospects in the 2027 cycle, including one of the top linebacker prospects, who will make his way to College Station this spring. On Monday, Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong reflected that progress with a prediction.

Going into Florida with clear intentions to land a commitment from four-star lineabcker Kaden Henderson, Wiltfong stated in a recent update that he has input his prediction for the Aggies to secure Henderson's commitment in the coming months. Fellow Rivals insider Chad Simmons revealed that Ohio State and Texas A&M are the top two programs Henderson will consider, while Florida State, Florida, Alabama, and the Miami Hurricanes are also teams slightly in the mix.

Set to lose assumed starting linebackers Daymion Sanford and transfer Ray Coney after the 2026 season, sophomore Noah Mikhail will be one of the lone returnees, and while Elko will likely add one or two linebackers from the transfer portal, Henderson would provide immediate depth in 2027.

"It’s the Aggies with the edge at this point in the cycle with Chad Simmons reporting over the weekend that Ohio State is in the top two.

Henderson has locked in his summer official to Texas A&M and he’ll also be there in the spring. I’ve logged an RPM pick to reflect the current pulse.

Fresh off an appearance in the national title game, Miami has been making a move. Florida State was Henderson’s dream school at one point and several others, including Alabama and Florida, work to remain in the picture."

The Aggies are also leading for five-star interior offensive lineman Albert Simien and four-star (Rivals) offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, who will both make their way to College Station in late May and early June. Texas A&M is still in great shape to finish as the No. 1 ranking when it's all said and done.

Why McNeese State’s viral manager is back after short stint at NC State

Why McNeese State’s viral manager is back after short stint at NC State originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

In one tweet, everything changed for Amir Khan. “We back @McNeeseMBB.”

Yes, there was a short tease video. Nothing over the top, just enough to get people’s attention.

Still, it didn’t take much. One post, and suddenly the temperature around McNeese State University basketball ticked up a few degrees.

Now, let’s be clear. McNeese is 23-5. This is not a team searching for relevance. The Cowboys are firmly in position to make another March run. The résumé is there. The wins are there.

And yet. Last season, during McNeese’s NCAA Tournament surge, Khan became one of the unexpected faces of the moment. He was the manager with the boombox leading the tunnel walk, somehow turning into a national storyline without ever taking a shot.

He later followed head coach Will Wade before eventually transferring back, and weeks ago he explained why on the McNeese Pokecast.

“Also just wanted to be back here was a big reason,” Khan said. “Wanted to graduate from here. It felt more special being down here. I lived here my whole life. House is five minutes away from here. So, yeah, it just means a lot more than NC State does.”

There was practicality behind it too.

“A lot of my credits didn’t transfer over there. Pushed me back to being a sophomore,” he said. “But also just wanted to be back here was a big reason.”

The attention never seemed to change how he viewed the job.

“What I want to do is shine light on student managers as a whole,” Khan said. “A lot of people didn’t know what we do. When I got the spotlight, they thought I was a professional boom box. A lot of what we do is behind the scenes.”

Behind the scenes, sure. But when a 23 win team with real March aspirations suddenly gets its Aura back, even in a lighthearted social media way, it feels aligned. And now, so is the soundtrack.
