In his first over, Archer bowled a surfeit of extras. Curiously, that 11-ball over had only a single boundary but Archer ended up with 18 runs against his name. At the completion of the first innings, Archer couldn’t even complete his quota of overs. It was indeed a chastening experience for the fast bowler.

As it happened, with all their lynchpins not putting up game-changing performances, RR suffered an ignominious defeat. Somewhere that acts as an essence to paint the larger picture. In GT’s last few matches, collective effort has been the keynote of their success. With RR, their wins have been stitched on the basis of individual brilliance of a few. Granted that Donovan Ferreira has made a difference with his performances in the middle order. But they seem to depend on a few marquee players. And that could be the focal point behind RR’s struggles during the second half of the 2026 IPL.
