Bangladesh captain hospitalized

Bangladesh cricket team captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz could miss the BAN vs AUS 3rd ODI as he has been hospitalized following the historic win on Thursday. The skipper opted to continue batting in the run-chase in Dhaka despite being hit on the head and vomiting on the field. India cricket team will commence their preparations for the 2027 World Cup by taking on Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series that starts from June 13. Shubman Gill and co. who were prolific in the 50-over format of the game last year, lost 1-2 to New Zealand at the start of 2026 following which they have only played T20Is and a Test. England Women registered an emphatic 87-run win against Sri Lanka Women in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 opener to start the tournament with a bang. The hosts amassed 219/1 in 20 overs, thanks to Danni Wyatt-Hodge’s unbeaten 105-run knock off just 62 deliveries. That total is the highest score to be made in a Women’s WC game. Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 13 (ANI): The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expresses its deep concern regarding the reported incident involving harassment and abuse of Bangladesh National Team cricketer Nayeem Hasan by some law-enforcing agency members in Chattogram on Friday evening.

According to the BCB Media Release, the Board strongly condemns the unacceptable and inappropriate conduct displayed towards the player and views the matter with the utmost seriousness. Such treatment of a national athlete is deeply regrettable and warrants immediate attention.

“The BCB expects a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and urges the relevant authorities to take appropriate action against those found responsible," the release stated.

Since learning of the matter, the BCB has remained in close contact with Nayeem Hasan and his family to ensure their well-being and provide all necessary support. The Board has also been actively engaging with the concerned authorities and administration in Chattogram to facilitate a proper resolution of this serious issue.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board reiterates its committment to safeguarding the welfare, dignity and rights of all its players and will continue to monitor developments closely.

A few days back, Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was elected as the president of the BCB, cementing his position at the helm of the country’s governing body after previously serving as head of its ad-hoc committee.

“Tamim was elected unopposed at a board meeting held following Sunday’s BCB elections, having secured the highest number of votes in the Club Category contest", BCB official Rabeed Imam told ANI, over the phone.

The newly-formed board also elected Fahim Sinha as vice-president. Although two vice-presidents are expected to be appointed, the Election Commission has so far announced only one name. Tamim topped the Club Category poll with 73 votes at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The former Bangladesh skipper finished ahead of Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khosru, who each secured 72 votes. A total of 16 candidates contested 12 seats in the Club Category. Amjad Hossain, Major Imroz, Faizur Rahman and Syed Borhanul Hossain Pappu failed to secure election. Major Imroz received the fewest votes with 20, while Amjad secured 32. (ANI)

Gill, 26, who led India to a Test win over Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, last week, Instagrammed this picture to his 20.2 million followers with the caption: “Your peace is your power.”

Vancouver [Canada], June 13 (ANI): Turkiye head coach Vincenzo Montella on Saturday described his team’s return to the FIFA World Cup 2026 as an emotional moment, saying the side is fully prepared and motivated as they gear up for their opening clash against Australia, marking their first appearance at the tournament in 24 years.

Turkiye’s last featured in the FIFA World Cup in 2002, when the national side achieved its best-ever finish by securing third place.

“The first game is always the more important, even though it’s not the one that decides the final results because you can gain points in future games, but of course, I think of this game as a game that is going to be important and that is going to help in the future path of our team," he said, as quoted by Reuters.

The 51-year-old said the current crop of players, who will also take on the United States and Paraguay in Group D, were not to blame for the fact that Turkiye had failed to reach the finals in more than two decades.

“I like telling my players that our success it’s not their fault that Turkiye was not at the World Cup for 24 years, but they can be proud that we can be here again after 24 years and now they need to be playing at their best, give the game their all and just avoid thinking about the other stuff," he added. USA vs Paraguay FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match: Folarin Balogun became the first-ever player from United State of America to score twice in a World Cup match in 96 years as co-hosts hammered Paraguay 4-1 in their opening Group D match at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday night. USA’s win by a three-goal margin was their first-ever after 96 years.

Their previous two wins by this margin was back in the 1930 FIFA World Cup – defeating both Belgium and Paraguay 3-0. USA’s dominant win was preceded by the third and final opening ceremony which was attended by dozens of American celebrities, who turned out for the match 10 miles south of Hollywood, including Tom Cruise, George Lucas, Bill Gates, Halle Berry, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

‘Christian Pulisic, nicknamed ‘Captain America’, provided an assist in a sensational first-half display by the Americans, who entertained the Southern California fans by racing to a 3-0 halftime lead — the team’s largest in any World Cup game.

Folarin became the first American footballer to score a brace since 1930. The last US star to achieve this feat was Bert Patenaude, who had in fact netted a hat-trick against Paraguay in the 1930 edition.

Gio Reyna completed the rout by ripping in a fourth goal in the dying moments of second-half injury time, giving the Americans four goals in a World Cup match for the first time. Cyle Larin rescues Canada vs Bosnia and Herezegovina

Co-hosts Canada avoided the embarrassment of a loss to start off their campaign in Group B of FIFA World Cup 2026 as they settled for a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herezegovina in BMO Field in Toronto on Friday. Canadian substitute Cyle Larin provided a late equalised to dash Bosnian hopes.

“It was special for me. I was ready to come and help the team. I thought the goals would come. I score when Canada needs me, and always have done. We just have to stay concentrated and keep pushing our limits,” Larin said after the match.
