Australia squad for Bangladesh Tests announced, Pat Cummins, Josh Halzewood & Nathan Lyon return

Cricket Australia on Tuesday announced the 13-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The trio of captain Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood return to the side for the series that will commence from August 13 onwards. The two-match series marks Bangladesh’s first Test tour to Australia since 2003. Australia are currently on top of the World Test Championship (WTC 2025/27) standings, having won 7 out of 8 matches played so far.

Australia squad for Bangladesh Tests

Captain Pat Cummins last featured in a Test in the Ashes following which he was sidelined due to a lumbar stress. While he did feature in the IPL 2026, the series against Bangladesh will mark his return to the longest format of the game for the first time this year. Cummins has 315 Test wickets and over 1500 runs to his name from 72 matches.

Nathan Lyon returns to the side after spending months on the sidelines. He went under the knife for a hamstring strain in December, which many believed was career threatening. However, the veteran last week claimed that he was ready to return to action. Selectors have indicated they may have to carefully manage the oldest member of their squad given it was his second significant soft-tissue injury in three years.

Josh Hazlewood last featured in a Test back in July 2025. A hamstring injury and a Achilles injury kept him out of the longest format entirely in 2025. Like Cummins, he returned to action in IPL 2026. With the veteran pace trio of Starc-Cummins-Hazlewood returning to the Test line-up, Scott Boland is likely to sit out once again.

While this is a 13-player squad, we have players prepared and available should any adjustments be required in the lead up to these matches. As previously stated, the volume of cricket and schedule across the next 12 months are likely to present further opportunities across all formats for many players,” Australia chief selector George Bailey said.

When Is India’s Next ODI Series? How Many Matches Will Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Play In 2026

England registered a terrific come-from-behind victory in the three-match ODI series to clinch the rubber 2-1.

India’s sole victory on their UK tour, which included two T20Is against Ireland and five T20Is and three ODIs against England, came in the 1st ODI in Birmingham.

The hosts bounced back to thump the visitors in Cardiff and at Lord’s.

The third ODI was a high-scoring encounter where 387 played 360. Amid plenty of questions and doubts and worries, one concern was allayed by Rohit Sharma as the veteran opener plundered 138 runs off 110 balls at Lord’s soon after reports of a potential last ODI took social media by storm.

Rohit’s long-time teammate and arguably the greatest ODI batsman, Virat Kohli, who had missed the ODI series against Afghanistan last month, showed his class with two quick-scoring fifties, making scores of 65 (66) and 74 (60) in the last two ODIs, but both went in vain.

There was a huge clamor regarding Rohit’s potential future with the Indian team – he only plays the ODI format in international cricket and will be 40 years of age by the time the 2027 World Cup rolls on.

During the 2nd ODI against England, reports suggested that the BCCI selectors had informed Rohit Sharma that he wasn’t in their plans for the 2027 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia next October-November.

Fans and experts were led to believe these reports to be true, and they began debating Rohit’s position as well as writing obituaries on his India career.

However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia shut down those reports, saying to PTI,

“I want to firmly assert that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday.”

On the field, it was Rohit Sharma himself who answered all doubters and critics by hammering his 34th ODI century and lifting India up in a tall chase.

Meanwhile, following the Ro-Ko show in England, Indian fans might be wondering when the senior duo will be seen again in action in Indian colors again.

When Is India Next ODI Series? How Many Matches Will Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Play In 2026

India have three ODI series left in 2026. India’s next ODI series is against the West Indies at home, a three-match series beginning on September 27.

Then, India will fly to New Zealand for an all-format tour, which includes a five-match ODI series from November 4 to 15.

India’s last ODI series of 2026 will be in December at home against Sri Lanka, another three-ODI rubber from December 13. The Men in Blue will then host Zimbabwe in January for three more ODIs.

‘Welcome home, CHAMPIONS!’: Spain PM Pedro Sanchez welcomes FIFA World Cup 2026 winners as Madrid erupts in celebration

Madrid [Spain], July 21 (ANI): Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez welcomed the FIFA World Cup-winning national football team on their return home, hailing the players after their historic triumph and sharing a video of the squad’s arrival and celebrations in Madrid.

Posting a video on X, Sanchez wrote, “Welcome home, CHAMPIONS!"

The video showed captain Rodri leading the victorious Spanish squad alongside head coach Luis de la Fuente as the team arrived in the Spanish capital to a rousing reception following their World Cup success.

Spain returned to Madrid on Monday afternoon, a day after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at New York New Jersey Stadium to secure the country’s second world title and first since their historic triumph in 2010.

Following their arrival, the squad attended official receptions with Prime Minister Sanchez and the Spanish royal family, including King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, before embarking on an open-top bus parade through the streets of Madrid.

According to Fox Sports, a huge number of supporters lined the route from Moncloa to the Plaza de Cibeles, turning the Spanish capital into a sea of red and yellow as fans celebrated La Roja’s long-awaited return to the top of world football.

Thousands of supporters, many dressed in Spain’s iconic red jerseys and waving national flags, gathered from early morning to welcome the champions. The celebrations culminated at the Plaza de Cibeles, where the team greeted jubilant fans during the public victory event.

Spain sealed the title thanks to substitute Ferran Torres, who scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute after reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area following Pedro Porro’s cross and Nico Williams’ assist.

Luis de la Fuente’s side dominated the final, enjoying 68 per cent possession and registering 20 shots, including 11 on target, while limiting Argentina to just four attempts throughout the contest.

The victory ended Spain’s 16-year wait for another FIFA World Cup crown and capped a memorable campaign with celebrations continuing across Madrid as the champions returned home. (ANI)

India squad for Sri Lanka Tests to be picked this week: Bumrah, Jadeja to return, Washington Sundar doubtful

The India cricket team squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka is likely to be announced this week, as per reports. Shubman Gill and co. are expected to leave for the island nation on August 4 and will play a practice game before the series that will commence from August 15. Some changes are set to be made in the squad from the one-off Test against Afghanistan, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja set to return.

India squad for SL series to be announced this week

As per the Times of India, the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar are expected to formally meet this week to pick the squad for the series. The selectors have already held informal talks on the sidelines of the T20I and ODI series in England. The report states that the selectors are waiting for clarity on Washington Sundar as the all-rounder is due to check into the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) after sustaining a hamstring injury during the ENG vs IND 2nd ODI.

Sundar reportedly underwent scans after the game, which has been shared with specialists. While the BCCI has labelled it a right hamstring injury, the report states that even a pull or a Grade 1 injury would mean it would take two weeks for Washington to recover. Therefore, he could miss the series against Sri Lanka.

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who were rested for the one-off Test against Afghanistan, are expected to return to the Test squad. The report states that Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar are likely to retain their spots in the squad, while the pace department will comprise of Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna apart from Bumrah.

Apart from Sundar, the selectors will also have to take a call on Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is yet to recover from an injury he sustained before the series against England. One can’t forget that the World Test Championship (WTC) points are on the line. India is currently 5th in the race and has a tough road ahead with away tours of Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Following which, Australia will arrive in India for a 5-match Test series.
