KenPom predicts Texas A&M to win 3 of 4 remaining regular-season games

Texas A&M (19-8, 9-5 SEC) is likely two more wins in conference play away from earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, and after losing four consecutive games, the Aggies are back on track after defeating Ole Miss at home and Oklahoma on the road last week. With four conference games remaining, facing No. 20 Arkansas on the road is the next challenge on Wednesday night.

Overall, Texas A&M's struggles have been on defense, failing to secure late-game stops, while the offense seemingly ran out of steam against Vanderbilt on the road during the Aggies' last defeat. None of this is surprising after 20-plus games, 14 in SEC play, and for a team picked to win fewer than 5 games before the season began, first-year head coach Bucky McMillan has continued to defy expectations.

After two consecutive wins, Texas A&M is widely considered a 9 or 10-seed in the NCAA Tournament field with over a 75% chance to make the big dance. As I stated above, two more wins will likely secure an at-large bid, and with Arkansas (road), Texas (home), Kentucky (home), and LSU (road) being the final four games of the regular season, KenPom predicts the Aggies win their final three games, all by one possession.

With a predicted loss to Arkansas, Texas A&M isn't expected to lose by a large margin, and just like the Aggies' three-point road loss to Alabama, anything is possible if McMillan's veteran team is locked in. Here is KenPom's updated score predictions for the final four regular-season games:

  • At Arkansas: 89-81 loss
  • Vs. Texas: 84-82 win
  • Vs. Kentucky: 81-79 win
  • Vs. LSU: 81-80 win

Accomplishing with feat won't be an easy task, especially given the way Texas and Kentucky's offensive efficiency, while even LSU has been one of the toughest out on the road. Still, if Texas A&M ends the regular season with 12 conference wins, a possible 8-seed in the tournament is up for grabs.
