It's hard to deny that Mikaela Shiffrin is the most dominant slalom skier in history at this point. The American has claimed four world titles and has the record for most World Cup wins with 71.
That said, she's had trouble at the Olympics as of late. Through Tuesday, she hadn't even earned a spot on the podium in either of the last two Olympics for the slalom.
That finally changed when she won gold in the slalom — her final event of the Milano Cortina Games — on Wednesday.
Here's how Shiffrin fared in the 2026 Olympics.
How many medals has Mikaela Shiffrin won at 2026 Olympics?
Shiffrin saved her best for last with a vintage performance to win gold in the slalom, her final event of this year's Olympics.
Shiffrin finished her runs on Wednesday with a combined time of 1:39.1, 1.5 seconds ahead of Camille Rast of Swizterland, and 1.71 seconds ahead of bronze medalist Anna Swenn-Larsson of Sweden. That winning margin is the largest in any Olympic alpine skiing event since 1998.
It also put an end to what had been a frustrating run in Milano Cortina for the now three-time Olympic gold medalist.
Through two events, Shiffrin had not added to her overall medal count. The United States finished fourth in the team combined event, just narrowly missing the podium. In the giant slalom, Shiffrin struggled, finishing 11th despite her first run putting her in seventh place.
How many total Olympic medals does Mikaela Shiffrin have?
With the win on Wednesday, Shiffrin now has four medals (three gold, one silver) through four total Olympic appearances. Her first gold medal came in 2014 when she became the youngest skier ever to win the slalom event.
Four years later, in Pyeongchang, Shiffrin earned gold in the giant slalom and was a pivotal factor in America earning silver in the combined event.
