Blackpool defender James Husband has been fined the "maximum possible club fine" and stripped of the captaincy following his second red card of 2026.
Husband was sent off for kicking out at Xavier Amaechi in Saturday's 4-0 defeat by Plymouth having already served a four-match suspension in January after being dismissed against Port Vale.
Manager Ian Evatt confirmed after Tuesday's victory over Mansfield that defender Fraser Horsfall has taken over the armband.
"As a club we have given him [Husband] the maximum sanction in terms of financial penalty that we are allowed to do and obviously we have removed the captaincy from him," Evatt told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"There is a responsibility in being captain of this football club and James would be the first to admit he's let everybody down on Saturday. He was the first to apologise for letting emotions get the better of him.
"Not having him available is going to hurt us. So it is unfortunate for everybody but we have to make sure we set the right standards at this football club and that is what we have decided."
Horsfall led the team against Mansfield on Tuesday on his return from injury after eight games out and will continue in the role.
The win against the Stags moved them three points clear of a congested League One relegation zone.
"From where we were Saturday to what we have just shown is night and day," Evatt added.
"It was a really good response from the players to a lot of finger pointing and a lot of questions."
