It was not meant to be for the Mingo brothers after all. After a long wait, Dylan Mingo has finally announced which school he will be playing for next season...and it is not the Nittany Lions.
This morning, Mingo announced he would be taking his talents to North Carolina to play for coach Hubert Davis. Most importantly, he chose not to pair up with his brother in Happy Valley and chose to forge his own path. As the No. 5 overall prospect in the class and No. 2 PG though, not many can blame him for choosing one of the most storied college basketball programs of all time.
This comes after an unusual process that saw Mingo have to push back his commitment date. After a flight cancellation last November saw him miss a UNC game against Kansas, he eventually got to see the team play against an in-state rival. Still, Mingo was initially expected to announce his decision in January, which perhaps could have given the Nittany Lions a better shot at signing him.
This is a huge loss for Mike Rhoades in his third season with the team as he has been trying to build Penn State back up. While signing Kayden Mingo, who is the program's highest rated signee to date, the inability to acquire his brother will sting for quite some time.
Dylan Mingo now becomes the second recruit in North Carolina's class of 2026, joining Maximo Adams, a four star wing talent.
