Burkina Faso: These African coaches aspire to lead the Stallions
More than 100 coaches have applied to take charge of the Burkina Faso national team. The successor to Brama Traoré is expected to be announced by the end of February.The top 5 African candidates:Kamou Malo: The former Stallions coach and 2021 Africa Cup of Nations runner-up in Cameroon (finishing fourth). A true expert in Burkinabé football, the 63-year-old has clinched the domestic league title four times along with other national honors. He is currently managing Club Industriel de Kamsar in Guinea.
Oscar Barro: The current coach of the Stallions U17 team. Oscar Barro has made his mark in the Burkinabé league and at the helm of youth national teams, and is now aiming to make the leap to lead the senior national side.
Mouril Njoya: The "Cameroonian magician" recently guided Stade Malien to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals—a historic achievement for Malian football. The pragmatic coach has built champions in Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania.
Florent Ibengé: A bronze medalist with Congo at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and winner of the 2016 African Nations Championship, Florent Ibengé boasts an impressive record with clubs in Congo, Morocco, and Sudan. The 64-year-old tactician currently serves as head coach of Azam FC in Tanzania.
Amir Abdou: The French-Malian coach who led Comoros to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 in 2021, and then guided Mauritania to a historic win over Algeria in 2023. Twice a Mauritanian league champion with FC Nouadhibou, Amir Abdou (53) is currently in charge of Hassania Agadir in Morocco's top flight.
