Team Rachel Homan is right back in the mix at the Winter Olympics after yet another win.
The Canadian’s picked up the 9-6 victory over Japan’s Team Sayaka Yoshimura for their second win on Monday in Milano Cortina, improving their record to 3-3.
While Homan and her team played well, it was the costly mistakes Japan made throughout the game that boosted the Canadian odds to win.
Especially draw weight.
In the third tied 2-2, Yoshimura had a chance to draw for her single point, but was heavy and gave up a steal of three.
Yoshimura’s weight continued to be a problem in the sixth end as again she was heavy on another draw giving Canada a steal to lead 7-3.
The Canadian rink will try to take the momentum they gained from Monday into their match Tuesday against undefeated Sweden (6-0) at 8:05 a.m. ET/ 5:05 a.m. PT (CBC Gem, Sportsnet+).
Per Curlingzone, Homan is 20-12 all-time versus the Swedish skip Anna Hasselborg, including 10-1 in their last 11 games.
Homan is trying to earn Canada gold in the women’s discipline for the first time since Jennifer Jones won in 2014.
The top four teams in the 10-team round-robin will advance to the semifinals.
Elsewhere in draw eight, Italy beat the U.S. 7-2 to get their first win of the tournament, South Korea edged out China 10-9 while Switzerland got back in the win column with a 10-6 win over Great Britain.
