Raiders holding DC interview with former Patriots DC

The search continues for the Raiders as they look to find their ever-important defensive coordinator. With Klint Kubiak as an offensive coach who will call the plays, the DC will have a big role with the team, so they need to get the right guy.

The latest candidate set to get his shot at the job is Packers DL coach DeMarcus Covington.

Prior to last season in Green Bay, Covington's entire coaching career was in New England. Starting as a coaching assistant in 2017, then moving to defensive line coach in 2020 under Bill Belichick. When Belichick was let go following the 2023 season, Covington was promoted to DC under head coach Jerod Mayo.

The Patriots defense ranked 22nd in the league that season in both points and yards allowed. Covington was out in New England along with most of Mayo's staff when he was fired after just one season.

This offseason, Packers DC Jeff Hafley left to become the head coach in Miami. The Packers replaced him with former Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon to the DC post. So, Covington's only shot at being a DC again is with the Raiders. Though at present, he has a lot of competition for the Raiders job.
